About NDT training and personal qualification certification

Date:2021-08-16 16:36:00 Views:1537

All personnel performing non-destructive testing need to obtain authorized training and certification. According to European, international and American standards such as EN ISO 9712 and ASNT, the successful operation of NDT technology requires sufficient training and experience. In some cases, when standards, regulations or regulations require the certification of NDT personnel, many people will certify their personnel according to the international standard ISO 9712. However, since NDT falls within the scope of different regulatory systems, so does certification and training. Although there is no central, ultimate training institution for NDT, the training program is still available. Training courses are provided by product manufacturers, third-party organizations and employers themselves. The employer shall have the final decision when formulating the requirements for NDT training for employees.

NDT training is usually divided into three levels, roughly corresponding to the understanding of apprentices, skilled workers and masters. In the industry, these are called level I, level II and level III certification.

At the most basic level, NDT technicians should demonstrate proficiency in one or more limited types of evaluation, namely ultrasonic crack detection in welds. They should be able to determine whether the application passed the evaluation and record the results. Technicians should also be able to set up, calibrate, store and comply with the safety measures of one or more NDT equipment. Level 1 technicians shall be supervised by higher-level technicians.

Intermediate NDT technicians should demonstrate a high-level understanding of the capabilities and weaknesses of their NDT methods. They should be familiar with the relationship between test standards and methods and between internal and external regulations. Level II technicians can set up and calibrate the equipment and interpret the results. They can supervise a group of level I technicians and prepare reports for demonstration.

Why NDT training?

Nondestructive testing is the most reliable method to control product quality. Poor nondestructive testing can cause safety problems, cause serious economic losses to importers, and even worse, affect your company's reputation. Professionals engaged in nondestructive testing need special training, corresponding special skills and experience, and hold corresponding qualification certificates before their inspection can be trusted and recognized.

This kind of training and assessment is provided by corresponding NDT institutions and societies. The society will conduct NDT training, teaching and assessment according to its own expertise and professional fields, or according to international standards. The inspector shall pass the examination and obtain the qualification, so as to determine whether the inspection conclusion issued by him is recognized.

NDT experts are technicians who develop NDT strategies implemented by level I and level II technicians. They translate external regulations into internal best practices. They specify test methods and standards and are responsible for selecting or recommending equipment. In the absence of specified standards, level III technicians shall be able to formulate their own standards. Level III technicians are responsible for supervising and inspecting level I and level II technicians.

Successful NDT evaluation requires theoretical and applied knowledge. Experience is also an irreplaceable teacher. As part of their certification requirements, NDT technicians shall demonstrate their proficiency in conducting written and practical inspections, while the minimum experience requirements ensure that important inspections are in the hands of verified personnel.
