What is weather resistance? Weather resistance, also known as reliability test, refers to a series of aging phenomena such as fading, discoloration, cracking, pulverization and strength decline of materials such as coatings, building plastics and rubber products due to the influence of external conditions such as sunlight, temperature change, wind and rain. Ultraviolet radiation is the key factor to promote the aging of plastics.
1、 Weather resistance test includes:
Heat resistance, freeze-thaw resistance, impact resistance, wear resistance, yellowing resistance, light aging resistance, alkali resistance, acid and alkali resistance, stain resistance, washing resistance, salt spray resistance, damp heat resistance, liquid medium resistance and water resistance
2、 Weather resistance test method:
1. Natural climate
Natural outdoor testing requires specimens to be exposed to sunlight and the atmosphere, either directly or with glass baffles. Two benchmark climates are often used to test products in the United States: the humid and hot subtropical Florida climate and the dry and hot Arizona desert climate. The climate in other places is suitable for other markets. For example, atlas has 25 climate tests in Europe. Outdoor testing often adopts annual irradiation and weathering treatment, which varies with time.
2. Although outdoor
When we want to be more exposed to solar radiation, we can use solar tracker or centralized processing system to directly expose to real outdoor weathering conditions to obtain faster outdoor testing. These test methods can provide effective results at least eight times faster than the original real time weathering.
3. Laboratory simulation
The laboratory test uses the test chamber with special environment and artificial light source, which can provide excellent repeatability and reproducibility, similar to the results obtained under real time conditions, but many times faster. Different environmental controls and lamp sources (such as fluorescence, carbon argon arc, or metal halide) can be used. Each has unique spectral characteristics and can match several key wavelengths of sunlight to predict the performance of the product.
4. Testing instrument
Gas chromatography (GC) UV, UV spectrophotometer atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS)
Liquid chromatography (LC) X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, XRFX X-ray diffractometer (XRD)
Infrared spectroscopy (IR, Fourier) gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)
